In 1920, Bernard Leach teamed up with Shoji Hamada to produce Japanese-inspired earthenware pottery designs forming the Leach Pottery

They thus grounded a Buddhist-inspired 20th. Century pottery modern art movement. The secret of their unique process involved modernism  and design-inspired earthenware glazes which were emulated by many others following on as students of the Bernard Leach School, including Richard Batterham.
