Humber flood defences are nearing completion at Kilnsea

Could they have been a foot or two higher, without spoiling the view?

Back in the village, the height is however maintained to prevent flooding of the lower levels which caused the village and fields to become heavily flooded and cut-off the previous year by the storm surges.

In behind the wall, there are also substantial rock defences (not shown in the photo). They are like a smaller version of Withernsea’s coastal flood defences which provide protection from pounding waves in high onshore winds
